HHS To Go Paperless

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has initiated two new steps in building an electronic health care system that will allow patients and their physicians to access their complete medical records as needed, leading to reduced medical errors, improved patient care, and reduced health care costs. It sounds like the system is going to be linked together using HL7 (no big surprise there). HHS has even asked the HL7 organization to review their work.

Perhaps you intended to link to materials somewhat newer than this July 2003 press release?

Unfortunately, this is the right one. The project started back in 2003 but I haven’t heard anything since then. I found this link to a 2004 press release. I was hoping someone would know more about the progress of this project at HHS.
