Where Are the HL7 Jobs?

by Matthew ~ June 6th, 2007. Filed under: HL7 Jobs, HL7 News, HL7 Tips.

jobs-offered.jpgA little unscientific research on the HL7 job market shows that there are not a ton of jobs for people with experience in this area. It’s very niche with only 87 jobs available on hotjobs.com, 267 on monster.com, and 145 jobs on careerbuilder.com - mostly technology related. By far, the hottest spot for HL7 skills is in Massachusetts where there is a whopping 41 (on monster, 8 hotjobs, 10 careerbuilder) related jobs available. The other relatively large markets are California (38 on monster, 30 on hotjobs, 16 on careerbuilder), Illinois (23 monster, 10 hotjobs, 13 on careerbulder) and and Texas (22 on monster, 6 on hotjobs, careerbulder 18).

Certainly many of these jobs are posted to multiple sites but the data is valid enough to give a broad overview of the market. The short conclusion is that if you are in the healthcare IT business you don’t want to get too deep into an HL7-only niche (unless you want to move to Massachusetts or California). Luckily, HL7 is usually a single secret weapon in the Healthcare IT utility belt. If anyone has recent experience of searching for a job in this market, we’d be interested in hearing from you.
